Scalp Massage

A scalp massage can help to increase blood circulation to the hair follicles, which will nourish the hair follicles and can strengthen the hair roots. In addition, any type of massage is deeply relaxing and will ease stress, which can be a contributing factor with hair loss.

Hair Transplant Surgery Consultation Advice – Pre & Post Operative

I am referred many clients in need of pre-operative and post-operative assistance in regard to their hair transplant procedures.

PRE-OPERATIVE CARE
There is a level of care that should be taken by patients awaiting a Hair Transplant Surgery and I can advise them in the right preperation.

POST OPERATIVE CARE
This includes practical advice: following Hair Transplant Surgery the vulnerable recipient area must be shielded from the sun and the timing of your first shampooing is important to prevent scabs from occurring around the hair shaft, this can increase the risk of losing newly transplanted hair follicles. Also patients often need the steadying reassurance of an expert following “shock loss” when virtually all of the transplanted hairs, inevitably traumatized by their relocation, fall out.

Hairpiece/ Wig Styling & Maintenance

It does not have to be as daunting as it seems, it’s not an experience anyone wants but it is advisable to organise a wig before your hair is lost (if at all possible) and find the right scalp/hair wig maintenance stylist for you.

A couple of hints to remember.
1. Most people feel that they would prefer a real hair piece as it gives the natural appearance they miss.
2. Mono fibre wigs are a good option, they are now very realistic in appearance, simple to care for, often the less expensive or available from the NHS.
3. Real hair wigs will require regular dry cleaning and setting or blow drying, consider this extra expense when making your choice.
4. Mono fibre wigs can be hand washed and dried over night. They require only a brushing through, as the style is heat sealed into the wig when made.
5. Choose the same volume of hair as you had it before. Too much hair will look like “a wiggy hat”. If in doubt choose a wig with very slightly less hair.
6. Hair Colour shading is where most people get it wrong, you should be aiming to go one shade lighter than your natural hair colour.

helpful hint: Keep samples of falling hair to match.

Andrea’s Key advice is:

Say “I’ll think about it” – Give your self time to decide.
…And please have someone with you who you really trust, to give a personal helpful opinion and remember that you can regain a lot of self esteem and confidence by getting it right.
